Jim and Colleen live in the Acreage near Royal Palm Beach, Florida. Colleen is a graduate of Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina ,and did graduate work for her master’s degree at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. She taught in public schools for 30 years and after retirement opened a business, Butterflies on Wheels, going into schools teaching conservation using butterflies. Within six years she visited seventy percent of the elementary schools in Palm Beach County..Colleen has been featured in several magazines with articles about her inovative work with butterflies. In addition to butterfly gardening, she enjoys composing songs and playing the guitar.

Jim, a fourth generation Floridian, is a graduate of Florida Southern College and holds an MTh Degree from the Southern California School of Theology. His hobbies are gardening, fishing, diving and writing. He is the author of seven books and has contributed to numerous magazines such as Florida Wildlife, Nature Photographer, Florida Gardening, Tide, Birds and Blooms, Butterfly Gardener, American Butterflies, and others. He was a columnist for a local newspaper, The Observer, for six years and is an active member of The Florida Writers Association.

Jim and Colleen worked for many years in religious education in Hawaii, California, and Florida. They are the parents of four adult children, two of which are deceased. They are also the proud grandparents of eleven grandchildren and the great-grandparents of three.
